چکیده

FIG. 1. Results of a barium enema showing a stricture of the descending colon. of Cobalt 60 was given in two parallel opposed fields (15 cm. x 15 cm.), which included the kidney bed and regional lymphatics. A dose of 300 r was given daily alternating between the anterior and posterior portal. A total dose of 5,500 r was delivered over 29 days. The patient remained at work until May 1963 (month 12 from the time of irradiation) when he experienced an episode of severe epigastric pain and nausea. This settled down without treatment but one month later he was admitted to hospital following a week of obstinate constipation, lower abdominal pain, and distension. This too resolved over the following seven days, although a barium enema showed a stricture of the descending colon (Fig. 1).

Breast cancer followed by second malignancy.

Among 232 cases of operable breast cancer treated by the 2nd Department of Surgery, Hiroshima University School of Medicine, between 1963 and 1982, 7 cases (3. 0%) were followed by a second primary malignancy. Eighty six percent of the second primary malignancies were found in digestive systems. The incidence of a second primary malignancy was 6. 1%* (5/82) in the irradiated group and 1. 3%* (2...

Expression of Angiotensin II and Aldosterone in Radiation-induced Lung Injury

OBJECTIVE Radiation-induced lung injury (RILI) is the most common, dose-limiting complication in thoracic malignancy radiotherapy. Considering its negative impact on patients and restrictions to efficacy, the mechanism of RILI was studied. METHODS Wistar rats were locally irradiated with a single dose of 0, 16, and 20 Gy to the right half of the lung to establish a lung injury model. Two and ...

Optimum reckoning of contra lateral breast dose using physical wedge and enhanced dynamic wedge in radiotherapy treatment planning system

Background: It was intended to investigate the effect of physical wedge (PW) and enhanced dynamic wedges (EDW) on contralateral breast dose during primary breast irradiation in radiotherapy treatment, using high energy photon beams. Materials and Methods: The Varian’s Clinac dual mode linear accelerator model 2100 C/D and Siemen’s Primus accelerators were used for radiation doses wi...

Harnessing graft-versus-malignancy: non-myeloablative preparative regimens for allogeneic haematopoietic transplantation, an evolving strategy for adoptive immunotherapy.

Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation was initially considered as a means of delivering supralethal doses of chemotherapy and total body irradiation (TBI) for the treatment of malignancy (Thomas, 1969, 1983). Many malignancies exhibit a steep dose±response relationship to chemoor radiotherapy, with higher doses producing greater cytoreduction. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) enables the esca...
